Two accused on car crash death of Scott Irwin

Scott Irwin, who died in a car crash, with partner Jodie Carroll and their son Connor.

TWO men have been arrested and bailed in connection with the death of a father killed in a car crash.

Scott Irwin, aged 23, of Staite Drive, Cookley, near Kidderminster, was a front seat passenger in a white Rover which collided with a white Ford Transit van at around 12.15am on Monday, March 31.

The father of one died of his injuries after the smash, which happened when he was out with friends.

A 17-year-old girl and a youth, also 17, who were rear passengers in the Rover, and an 18-year-old man, who was driving the car, also suffered serious injuries in the accident at the junction of Minster Road and Oldington Lane, Kidderminster.

West Mercia Police today revealed that the 18-year-old driver of the car, who has not been named, was arrested last Saturday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The 24-year-old male driver of the van was also arrested last Saturday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was also released on police bail.

A police spokesman said: "We are continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch."

Last month 22-year-old Jodie Carroll paid tribute to Mr Irwin, who had been her partner since the pair met at school.

She said Mr Irwin, who worked with her as a machine operator at a turf firm in Hartlebury, near Kidderminster, was extremely popular.

"He had a lot of friends and came from a big family who all loved him," Ms Carroll said.

The couple, had been together for eight years, have a two-year-old son Connor.

Witnesses to the crash can contact PC Andy Saunders at the road policing unit on 08457 444888, extension 3143.
