Crash teenager fights for life

A MIDLAND teenager is today fighting for her life in Selly Oak Hospital after she received severe head injuries in a ’freak’ car crash.

The 19-year-old Bridgnorth woman, a passenger in a purple Rover, was struck on the head by the mast of a boat which was on a trailer being towed by a vehicle heading in the opposite direction.

Last night surgeons carried out an emergency operation in a bid to save her life and she is now in a critical condition. A black Range Rover towing the boat had hit the woman’s car at around 10.40pm yesterday as it travelled towards Bewdley on the Dowles Road.

The two drivers of the vehicles escaped unharmed.

Pc Sian Davies, of the North Worcestershire road policing unit, said: "As the vehicles passed, the mast is believed to have come away and gone through the windscreen of the purple Rover, missing the driver, but striking the passenger.

"This was a freak incident, and our thoughts are with the injured woman and her family."

Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact PC Davies on 08457 444888.
