Freak accident teen dies

A MIDLANDS teenager hit by the mast of a boat in a 'freak' accident has died in Selly Oak Hospital.

The 19-year-old Bridgnorth woman, a passenger in a purple Rover, died after she was struck in the head by the mast of a boat which was on a trailer being towed by a vehicle heading in the opposite direction.

Surgeons carried out an emergency operation on the woman, who has not yet been named, in a bid to save her life but she died yesterday afternoon.

A black Range Rover towing the boat had hit the woman’s car at around 10.40pm on Wednesday June 4 as it travelled towards Bewdley on the Dowles Road.

The two drivers of the vehicles escaped unharmed.

PC Sian Davies, of the North Worcestershire road policing unit, said: "We are continuing to appeal for witnesses, including anyone who saw what happened or indeed anyone who saw the vehicle towing the boat prior to the incident."

Anyone with information should contact PC Davies on 08457 444888.
