Dame Kelly Holmes visits South Bromsgrove School

DOUBLE Olympic gold medal winner Dame Kelly Holmes made a special visit to a Midland secondary school to award a team of champions with their sporting prizes.

As part of National School Sports Week hundreds of pupils from across the county battled it out in an all-day Frisbee tournament.

With students from middle and high schools all flinging themselves full throttle in to the action at South Bromsgrove School, Dame Kelly Holmes was left more than impressed.

The eventual winners of the competition were a team from Catshill Middle School.

The players included Max Loveridge, aged 12, Calum Ferguson, aged 12, Mitchel Goodwin, aged 13, George Freeman, aged 12, Emily Walters, aged 11 and 12-year-old Aimee Harpur.

Dave Hewitt, PE teacher at Catshill Middle School in Bromsgrove, said: “It was a real privilege for our team to receive their awards from Dame Kelly Holmes.

“She is such an inspiration to the young people that attended the event, and it was such a fitting end to a very successful day of events.”
