Man dies in road smash in Kidderminster

A PEDESTRIAN died from multiple injuries after being hit by car on a busy road.

The man in his 60s, from Oldbury, was barely conscious when emergency crews reached him after the accident near the Royal Forester pub, in Callow Hill, Kidderminster.

Paramedics were alerted to the crash between a pedestrian and a Ford Fiesta on the A456 at 7.30pm on Friday.

They warned medics at Selly Oak’s Major Trauma Unit of the victim’s serious condition, but he died soon after arrival at the hospital.

West Mercia Police officers closed the section of road for several hours on Friday night to carry out inquiries and determine the cause of the crash.

PC Paul Bolsley, from West Mercia Road Policing Unit, said: “This is a very sad and tragic accident and our thoughts are with the family.

“A number of witnesses have been spoken to but we want to speak to anyone who saw the collision.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service received a 999 call and an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle, an incident support officer and a BASICS doctor were dispatched to the scene.

An Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The pedestrian was a man believed to be in his 60s, who was treated at the scene for serious multiple injuries.

“He was transferred by ambulance to Selly Oak Hospital major trauma unit whilst receiving further treatment by medics on route.

“The driver of the car was checked over at the scene, but did not require hospital treatment.”

Anyone with information about the accident is urged to contact traffic police at the Road Policing Unit for West Mercia on 08457 444888.
