Books come to life at Holy Cross School

Holy Cross Catholic Primary School pupils and staff in their book-themed fancy dress

SOME amazing characters came to Holy Cross Catholic Primary School last week, as part of the school's 'Book Week'.

Children and staff at the Walmley school enjoyed dressing up as a book character for the day, including the Head as Puss-in- Boots, a Teaching Assistant as Lady Macbeth and the Assistant Head Teacher as the Demon Head Teacher!

At an assembly the children had to guess the character of the staff and one teacher was Grandpa Joe from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Grandpa Joe set the challenge for the children to find a 'golden ticket' to win a large chocolate bar.

The children had great fun following cryptic clues and eventually two year six boys found the ticket!

Parents took part in the school book fair each day after school and across the school children took part in a book review competition, aswell as making book covers.

Class teachers swapped classes to read to other year groups and classes were paired up to enjoy sharing books.

The Deputy Head, John Hall stated they were delighted in how much fun everyone had throughout the week and the staff are already planning more fun next term to continue celebrating 2008 as the national year of reading.
