How Rich Watson wrote a real driving song with the stars!

A PART-TIME singer-songwriter from Bromsgrove has teamed up with two giants of rock to record a charity track with a distinct difference.

Rich Watson, who now lives in London where he works for a recruitment agency, wrote and sang Six O'Clock with Mike Rutherford and Kenney Jones in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

What makes the band and the track stand out is that the instruments used were made from parts from a Ford Focus.

All the instruments have appeared in a recent television advertisement for Ford, which features an entire orchestra playing instruments assembled from the components and body panels of a Focus.

They were designed by Bill Milbrodt, an American musician who began making music from bits of cars in the 1990s. He formed a New Jersey band called the Car Music Project in 2005, who were spotted by Ford’s UK advertising agency.

Rich said: "I wrote Six O' Clock after moving to London, which was picked up by a journalist at The Times who was working on a project with Ford Cars and the Car Music project.

"From there I was invited down to Mike Rutherford's studio in Surrey,  where he has recorded many successful albums with Genesis and he roped in Kenney Jones from The Small Faces into the project, to play on my self-penned track.

"The whole experience has been fantastic and a bit of a personal triumph for me as I'm a massive fan of The Small Faces and hopefully this project could possibly lead to me finally securing a publishing or record deal."
