New production from Stage 27

AMATEUR dramatics group Stage 27 are back with a new production at The Dovehouse Theatre, Langley School, Olton.

Ghost Writer, by David Tristram, is a darkly comic tale about the fickle and sometimes murderous world of showbiz.

A talented yet spoilt, diva-like actress is found dead in bed after an apparent overdose of cocktails and booze, leaving her playwright husband and regular warring partner Edward to mourn and mope and drink his own bodyweight in gin.

That is until Ruby comes back from the dead, to proclaim that she was not suicidal but in fact murdered.

Which of the brash, hetero/homosexual (and those undecided) thespians in her circle did it? The only way to find out, is to gather those present on that fateful night and visit the place and time in which the scene was set...

Acocks Green-based Stage 27 has been in existence for over 50 years and has had many members from all walks of life. They perform two productions per year, and regularly enter Amateur Dramatics Festivals.

The group recently took part in the BFAME Festival at the Dovehouse Theatre and won the AETF B'ham 1st Stage Award.

The will be going on to take part in the Western Division Quarter Final at The Edge Arts Centre, Much Wenlock, Shropshire on April 26.

The group was one of the first groups to perform at The Old Rep Theatre, and has performed at venues including The Old Rep, the MAC and more recently the Dovehouse.

Stage 27 are constantly looking out for new members and welcome help in all areas - from those wishing to grace the stage to publicity, backstage/set design, costume and front of house assistance.

The group normally meet on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm at the Methodist Church in Acocks Green. See www.stage27.org.uk for more details.
