Memories of Hazel Court

Hazel Court

DURING the late 1940s my father played darts for a very good team called Norman's Nine. Their base was the Australian Bar on the corner of Hurst Street and Bromsgrove Street in Birmingham.

A competition in the Midlands had been organised by either the Birmingham Sports Mail, or the Argus.

The final was played at the Birmingham Town Hall.

A large electric dart board was used to allow the audience to see where the darts had landed.

Hazel Court was the Guest of Honour to present the trophies.

Norman's Nine won the cup, and my father, Archie Morgan received a trophy for the highest score of the night.

Dad had a kiss on the cheek, plus a large photograph, signed 'To Archie, with love, Hazel Court'.

I think I was about 17 years old at the time.
