Solihull band DRAG are doing it for themselves

Solihull punk band DRAG.

SOLHIULL punk band DRAG say they are taking their level of independence to the next level.

DRAG have independently co-ordinated, funded and executed recording, promotion, merchandise and worldwide release of their first EP. No managers, no record label, no strings!

Vocalist Heather explained why DRAG (short for DressedAsGirl) are taking charge of their own music career:

"We've noticed that in the music industry - and certainly the local music scene - there seems to be a lot of bands that sound the same. There's a huge surge on male-led guitar bands with regional accents singing 'safe' songs about 'safe' topics," she said.

"DRAG are a band that go against everything that is currently out there: fronted by three individual-looking females, we are instantly different before we've played a note - add to that our sleazy-punk, grunge, riot grrrl musical assault and you're moving further away from bland indie tunes. Listen to our lyrics and you'll see we're not that 'safe' a bet any more!"

Guitarist Velma added: "DRAG address topics most bands would be afraid to such as eating disorders, self-harm, gender confusion, sexuality and prostitutes. Such issues are tackled without apology or judgement, and a very blurred line between encouragement and disapproval!"

DRAG are doing everything themselves because they can - they don't want to hand over creative control to another party, or another company! They are truly independent of corporate money-makers, and through the hard work of all four members, DRAG are standing up to the big boys and doing it their way!

'EP1' is out worldwide on iTunes, Napster & all good digital distributors.
