Award nominated play Lady In Red at Birmingham's Crescent Theatre

A GROUND-breaking play that lifts the lid on domestic abuse is set to take the stage in Birmingham.

Shortlisted for the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award, Lady In Red has been stunning and moving audiences right across the country.

"We were narrowly pipped at the post for the Amnesty award," says writer Claire Moore (winner of the Inspiring Women Awards 2008) , "but to have our work recognised by an Organisation like Amnesty International was a great honour."

Produced by Certain Curtain Theatre Company, a professional Company, renowned for tackling sensitive and controversial subjects. Lady In Red tells the story of Rose - a woman who is literally a prisoner in her own home and of her attempts to escape a violent relationship.

"Rose's story is typical of so many people's experiences," adds Claire "the play seeks to answer the question 'Why doesn't she just leave?' - to give a voice to thousands who are unable to speak out."

"Our aim is dramatic excellence, in whatever we produce," adds co-writer John Woudberg "the play is a compelling drama in its own right. It has tension, humour and a gritty yet beautiful language. People are saying Lady In Red is an experience they will never forget."

The play is part of the Behind Closed Doors event taking place at the Crescent Theatre where there will also be dynamic presentations from published author Pat Craven, whose new book Living With The Dominator is flying out along with input from local speakers.

A definitive one day event bringing together two leading forces in the field of domestic violence to challenge, inspire and engage you in the issues like never before.

Lady In red is on June 27. Bookings must be made in advance by contacting Claire on 01772 731024 or emailing cctheatre@yahoo.com
