Can you help in the Chattaway family tree hunt?

A CALL for help from anyone called Chattaway and living in the Midlands has been made by a namesake tracking down his family tree.

Phill Chattaway of Devon says: "I have been trying to put the whole Chattaway family on one big tree together for 30 years - Bradford and Australia are easy compared to Birmingham and Coventry.

"Even with todays Chattaways included, somewhat suprisingly there are/were less than 3,500 ever since 1600 - this includes the USA, Canada and Australia.

"We all descended from Berkswell, and we are clearly slowly dying out. Our peak was in 1870 but since then our numbers have slowly been dwindling.

"I am desperate in particular for Birmingham and Coventry family trees so I can put the whole picture together. I am also in the process of doing a website dedicated to just Chattaways.

"If I can complete this project, it will hopefully will show a snapshot slice of how we all evolved, and will be of great importance in showing many aspects of life including how surnames and fornames changed, population, health, life expectancy, world expansion of people and many other interesting pieces of data."
