THE 2008 Midlands Swimming Championships combines East and West Midlands and provides an opportunity to compete against some of the best in the country in their age groups.
Our seniors produced their best ever performances with a record number competing. Holly Lynch led the way with gold and two silvers. There were bronzes for James Youngman (2) and Martin Wyers. In all there were 11 finalists and 10 club records.
Our juniors were even more successful with an incredible haul of 4 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze medals.
Penny Whittingham lead the haul with 3 Golds, 4 silvers and a bronze, added to by Jordon Youngman, Kristie Hackett, Emma Smith, Alice Dearing, Caitlin Horsley, Phil Hewitt, Karol Bukowski, Hanna OBrien, Katie Richardson, Charles Payne, Alex Swinhoe and Mathew Hyde.
In addition there were 10 more finals places and a record number qualifying to compete.
The junior water polo team were not to be outdone. They lifted the Midlands League title for the first time.
Watch out for our current world record holder, 13 year old Eleanor Simmonds competing at the forthcoming Beijing Olympics in early September, and 8 of our swimmers doing the 2.25 km swim from Bournemouth Pier in July raising money for the British Heart Foundation.
Boldmere Swimming Club provides opportunities from beginner level and welcome swimmers at all levels.
