493 Squadron help Kings Heath carnival take off

THEY say a festival brings a community together, and for the last three years 493 Squadron (Air Training Corps) have certainly been doing that.

It gave the Kings Heath area a day of fun, entertainment and pleasure with the annual Kings Heath festival on July 5.

This year, 493 Squadron attended the festival to assisted in the running of the events.

Throughout the day, 493 Squadron was helping the local community running the festival.

Cadets helped with car parking, selling programmes for the children's hospital, as well as other assistances. The arrival of the mayor was a great entrance to the festival, as the mayor arrive, 493 squadron set up a guard of honour and respectfully saluted the mayor.

But this year , there was a twist, a lost child was reported, and as a squadron we set out to find the lost boy, after a successful search the child was returned to his very grateful parent.

We offer young people aged between 13 and 20 a variety of exciting activities including flying, gliding, shooting, Duke of Edinburgh award, first aid, sports, field craft and much more, with many activities leading to formal qualifications.
