Swimmers raise £4,000 for charity with pier to pier swim

Members of Boldmere and Walsall swimming clubs in Bournmouth.

MEMBERS of Walsall and Boldmere swimming clubs took the plunge together for a charity swim in Bournmouth.

They swam the 1.5 mile distance between two piers in aid of the British Heart Foundation and in memory of colleague Mark Rickhuss.

Mark died aged just 41 from a heart attack while helping a friend swim the English Channel

One of the swimmers, Paul Bates, said: "Mark was a national age champion in his younger days then went on to swim open water races and finally doing the channel in 1999, he did it in the fastest time of anyone that year, and the 33rd on the all time list."

Paul said the swim had raised around £4,000.
