Lucy Bird makes Great Wall of China trek for charity

Lucy Bird with father Barry.

LUCY Bird of Monkspath, Solihull is daring to take on the challenge of a lifetime.

Lucy, aged 26 will be taking on the ultimate challenge by trekking the Great Wall of China in May 2009 in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The Great Wall stretches over 6,300km from east to west and is the only human-made structure visible from the moon, making it the ultimate trekking adventure.

Lucy decided to take on the challenge after her father Barry was diagnosed with terminal cancer in September 2008.

She said: "My mum has already fought breast cancer in 1998 and after my dad received his diagnosis, I wanted to do something to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care to help them continue the brilliant work they do.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge which is definitely a once in a lifetime experience! We all know someone who has fought or is fighting cancer, so I'm really happy to be raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care as I think it's such a great cause."

The trek is taking place between the May 9-17 next year and Lucy hopes to raise £3,000. If you would like to sponsor her please visit www.justgiving.com/lucybird2
