BIRMINGHAM school children were given an insight into the catering industry by an experienced restauranteur during an educational outing.

Pupils studying for a B-tech in Hospitality and Catering at Castle Vale Performing Arts College took a trip to Punjabi eatery Pushkar in Broad Street.

Much like on the popular BBC show Michel Roux’s Service, they were shown the ropes ‘front of house’ – on this occasion by Pushkar’s creative director Rai Singh.

He shared advice on how to read different situations and customer types, making diners feel at ease, and how to manage a fluent restaurant under great pressure.

After the tutorials, the students experienced first-hand how hospitality operates at the restaurant when they enjoyed a three-course meal.
