BIRMINGHAM Mail cartoonist Colin Whittock today reflected on the end of an era now that his cartoons are set to appear weekly from this Friday.
After his 42-year, daily run ended last week, our new end-of-the-week cartoon will continue Colin’s astonishing career with his hometown newspaper.
Colin said: “People are always asking me about my work.
“Serious cartoons worry me because they can be really trite, but one of my favourite drawings was after 9/11 and the Statue of Liberty was stooping down to ask: ‘Will we ever feel safe again?’
“Then there was the time I got a call at midnight with a tip that Michael Jackson had died, so that we were able to keep the Mail at the forefront of international news.
“Staff on the paper are always feeding me local news and tips, too.”
