Mrs Yasmeen Akhtar, of Hodge Hill, was shocked when she opened the letter demanding payment of £145 and a summons to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court tomorrow over the non-payment of Council Tax on a home she owns in George Arthur Road, Saltley. But then she was stunned when another letter, with the same date, told her she was exempt from the payment and the bill had been cancelled.
