THOUSANDS of students across the West Midlands are celebrating another bumper crop of GCSE results.Pupils have been heading to schools across the region to find out how they have performed in the all-important exams.Success stories include Bishop Walsh Catholic School in Sutton Coldfield, where more than 70 per cent of students achieved the benchmark five or more A*-C grades including maths and English.Top of the class was Gerard Martin with 10 A* grades, along with Jacob Deasy and Rose McGoldrick, who scored an impressive eight A*s each and Kerry Gill with six A*s.Gerard, Jacob Deasy and classmate Tom Davis were also awarded an A grade at AS level maths, a qualification usually taken at the end of Year 12.Head teacher John Farrell said: “Congratulations to our pupils, they can be proud of their hard work especially in the last few months of Year 11. “The school really appreciates the support pupils receive from parents who make sure their children do their God given best.”Also scoring highly was Arrow Vale High School in Redditch, where the number of students with five or more A*-C grades including maths and English jumped 17 per cent to 50 per cent.Head teacher Guy Shears said: “This year 11 group have performed outstandingly well and have smashed all records at the school. “There is no doubt that these results will place Arrow Vale as one of the most improved schools in England this year.”Read
