FIREFIGHTERS led eight elderly residents to safety on Wednesday night when a small fire broke out at a rest home in Wednesbury.

Two crews from Walsall were called to the Shruberry Rest Home, in Wood Green Road, at 6.30pm. Six other residents had already left the building. Firefighters extinguished a small fire in a gas inlet cupboard. Nobody was injured.
