But the action sequences are exciting and there’s some snappy lines, with Det Dunnigan (Colm Meaney) saying: “We need to take the gloves off”, and Clyde promising: “It’s going to be Biblical!”

At last, we begin to see why Hollywood has been putting so much faith in the Scottish star.

But Butler’s best film, for my money, remains the low budget, little seen 2004 drama, Dear Frankie.

When he says, “I’m a law abiding citizen, just a regular guy”, many viewers will sympathise with his apparent isolation.

The system all too often seems to favour the perpetrators of crimes rather than the victims, but Clyde Shelton’s answer should clearly not be copied at home!

Wimmer, meanwhile, is busy working on a 20th anniversary remake of the Arnold Schwarzenegger hit, Total Recall (1990).
