Refurbished Rainbow's double top

THE RAINBOW in Digbeth has picked up two of the top gongs at this year's Independent Birmingham Music Awards.

It came top in polls to find the best club night for Hott Date, which features some of the city's top DJs, and will relaunch on February 14 with a Hott Date Valentine's party. The Rainbow also topped the polls as Best Birmingham Venue since its refurb last year when it opened a 1,000 capacity warehouse for major events just yards away from its current site.

Chicks Dig Jerks won the prize for the Best Birmingham Promoters. The company, which has put on bands including The Klaxons and The Faint, has been running for four years and is the brainchild of Maz Snape.

Best Tune Playing DJs was won by Bang BAng, who recently left their residency at Panic to plan their own nights.

Scott Bleepz picked up the gong for Best Technical DJ. Despite only being in the industry for two years he is about to embark on a tour of Asia.

Best Birmingham Band was Swampmeat. Moseley boys Danny C and T Bird have had their music compared to Johnny Cash and are due to play at The Yardbird on April 2.

The Outstanding Achievement award went to Bigger Than Barry who have sold out all their garage events in 2007. They hold a regular night at The Rainbow as well as a spin off night in The Bulls Head in Moseley.
