Clubs: Clubs gear up for New Year's Eve

AS CHRISTMAS approaches, clubland is getting geared up for its most important night of the year – New Year’s Eve.

The Midlands is again festooned with opportunities to burn the midnight oil in front of the speakers listening to your favourite DJ.

One of the highlights will be at Broad Street Club Gatecrasher Birmingham where Calvin Harris and fellow 2009 sensation Deadmau5 will be taking to the stage in the main room.

The club’s second room, Mansion, will be playing host to Ian Watkins from the Lost Prophets along with Birmingham’s own Luke Wilkins from Kerrang Radio.

At the O2 Academy in Horsefair Ryan Jarman from The Cribs will be helping to ring in 2010 with music ranging from dubstep to indie.

The whole club will be given over to a circus theme for the night and the music will be playing until 4am. Tickets cost from £10.

Meanwhile, The Custard Factory is playing host to an estimated 3,000 people as it combines some of its most successful nights for a New Year’s Eve blowout.

The venue is combining its regular nights Stupid Underground, Bigger Than Barry, Atomic Jam, Breakthru, Eardrum and Brum for the night.

Acts will include The Scratch Perverts, Get Carter, Ali B and Caspa. Tickets cost from £15 and the doors open at 9pm.

The Rainbow in Digbeth will also be combining two popular nights to see in 2010 when it brings together GLAS and TRMNL for the night.

Up to 3,000 people are due to descend on the venue for the night which will feature circus freaks, confetti cannons as well as stage and light shows.

Doors will be open from 8pm for early starters and entry is £30.

At fellow Digbeth venue Air organisers claim to be hosting the Midlands’ biggest old skool night featuring local Galaxy FM DJs as well as G Child from BBC Radio 1Xtra.

The night starts at 9pm and tickets cost from £20.

This year the NEC is again turning over one of its halls as well as the LG arena for celebrations to see in the new year.

Up to 10,000 people are expected to attend the event which features music from Friction, Grooverider, Lisa Lashes, Andy C and Hazard.Tickets cost from £47.50. At Subway City in Water Street in the Jewellery Quarter, two of the venue’s top indie nights are going head to headwith three rooms of indie, alternative, brit pop and electro to keep the crowd happy until 2010.
