Michael McIntyre, Glee Club, Birmingham

IT IS really hard not to like rising comedy star Michael McIntyre.

The son of comedy scriptwriter Ray Cameron, who co-wrote Kenny Everett's TV shows with Barry Cryer, is a very engaging character, even when pushing at the boundaries of what is acceptable.

Michael, whose TV appearances have been confined to slots on shows such as Live From The Apollo and Mock The Week, is an effervescent performer when doing live stand-up.

But he effortlessly holds several running strands together while still managing to extract some hilarious moments from encounters with the sell-out audience, notably a pair of worse for wear women from Bury, near Manchester, and two members of the four-strong SPunk7 band from Nuneaton.

He delivers his own version of the Easter Story, recalls an embarrassing moment at his toddler son's playgroup, and a "gay Northerner" trying to sell biscuits on a train buffet car.
