The Ordinary Boys @ Carling Academy Birmingham

IT'S hard to believe that just months ago, rumours were rife that this modern day ska band were about to be dropped from their record label.

Now after a stint in the Big Brother house by frontman Preston and celebrity engagement to Chantelle, the boys are back on top.

Judging from the hundreds of fans packed in as part of the band's sell-out tour, the label made the right decision to keep them on.

The crowd was a mixture of young fans pulled in by the lure of reality television and old school ska addicts who looked pleased to have another reason to dance.

The obvious crowd-pleaser was their biggest hit, Boys will be Boys. But equally satisfying for the fans who had obviously been with the Brighton five-piece since the start were Talk Talk Talk and Seaside.

Their brand of bouncy ska-pop is rather like a watered down version of Madness or the Specials, but is also utterly entertaining and instantly makes you want to hit the dancefloor.
