Gomez @ Wulfrun Hall, Wolverhampton

IT takes a great live band to persuade you to stand in stifling heat for nigh on two hours...Gomez are that band.

Now in their tenth year, Gomez did their best to raise the roof for the sweating masses at the Wulfrun Hall.

Eighth album How We Operate is worth a listen, with the title track and Girlshapedlovedrug standing out; only time will tell.

Bring it On, Devil Will Ride and Ping One Down catapulted the set to distinction and therein lies part of the problem. For when your back catalogue is that good - will new work ever need to live up to it?

Regardless, at their best they're one of the top live bands on the circuit, ably demonstrated by their final song, Whippin' Piccadilly.
