Public Enemy @ Wulfrun Hall

CONTROVERSIAL hip hop kings Public Enemy proved they are still as relevant in 2006 as they were 20 years ago with a ferocious show in Wolverhampton.

They blasted classics such as Welcome To The Terrordome, Bring The Noise and Shut Em Down, while chief rapper Chuck D and his trusty sidekick Flavor Flav baited the likes of George W Bush and Tony Blair for their foreign policy.

The crowd was curiously low at the relatively small Wulfrun Hall which was a shame because the band deserved much better.

Unfortunately, some of that momentum was lost midway through the set when Chuck D announced the dreaded 'Meet The Band' section.

That would have been okay had it not been followed by a lengthy Flavor Flav solo section.

But they produced a storming finish by reeling off a number of favourites, including Rebel Without A Pause, Don't Believe The Hype and, of course, Fight The Power to send the nostalgic audience home happy.
