The Pogues @ NIA

WHAT a party! The Pogues were joined by fellow Irish party animals, The Saw Doctors, to ensure Christmas at the NIA was given a true St Patrick's Day makeover.

Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without the annual festive tour by the Pogues, happily back to their classic line-up.

With lead singer Shane MacGowan restored to the fold, the band lived up to its reputation as one of the best live acts of the last 20 years.

Shane may have been barely coherent during his chats with the audience between songs, but he still knows how to belt out a Pogues tune.

The eight-piece band set the mood perfectly with the opening Streams of Whiskey and followed in similar vein with the likes of A Pair of Brown Eyes and White City.

Shane frequently handed over the singing duties to other members of the band, including Spider Stacy and Philip Chevron.

But only Shane could truly deliver on the real Pogues anthems like Dirty Old Town, The Irish Rover and Sally MacLennane.
