Razorlight @ NEC

RAZORLIGHT, the band with the golden touch, ensured thousands of fans had a real Good Friday.

When the mop-haired Johnny Borrell strutted on stage in white drainpipes and a skintight vest, I thought I'd walked in to a Mika concert by mistake.

But when the unmistakable chords of last summer's signature tune - In the Morning - kicked in there was no mistaking whose concert I had stumbled into.

The NEC can be a tough venue to get going but the ego of Johnny lifted the place.

Perhaps Razorlight are the most influential guitar ensemble of this fledgling century or perhaps they are corporate-backed opportunists peddling samey formulaic tracks with no soul.

All I know is that when thousands of Brummies badly mimicked Johnny's note perfect voice singing 'I really, really wish I could be somewhere else', the hairs on my neck stood up and I couldn't have disagreed with them more.
