Wishbone Ash @ Robin 2, Bilston

DESPITE the smell of anti-wrinkle cream in the air, the guys from Wishbone Ash raised the bar again.

Support band LunarMile were not even born when these guys first took to the stage but 37 years on, they are amazingly getting better. Andy Powell and Co let rip with an electrifying set of Wishbone Ash classics.

Relative newcomer guitarist Muddy Manninen made his own blues-inspired mark on The King Will Come and Phoenix, blazing away on slide too. He's a fantastic player to watch and listen to.

Playing to a partisan crowd, they could do little wrong, but the originators of the twin guitar sound took the bull by the horns and gave a performance that was full of energy.

If you have only heard Wishbone Ash recorded, see them live. There is a passion that is rare to see in bands with a lot less years under their belts.

Highlight of the night? The best rendition of Phoenix I've ever heard!
