INXS @ Symphony Hall

TELEVISION talent shows have given us a new Maria, Joseph, Danny and Sandy - and a replacement for the late Michael Hutchence of INXS.

Canadian JD Fortune won VH1's Rock Star, with the prize of one of the most difficult jobs in music.

Taking the place of one of rock's most extrovert frontmen must have been a daunting prospect - others have tried and failed - but JD has taken to the role with ease. Swaggering on to the stage, he displayed self-confidence in abundance.

Jumping into the audience, who were on their feet from the off, he told security staff to allow fans to get as close to the stage as they wanted.

Then he handed out plastic beakers and filled them with champagne - after giving band members a swig.

INXS classics like Need You Tonight, Mystify Me and Devil Inside got a great reaction, and new material from the Switch album stood up well.

JD has the Hutchence moves, attitude and charisma; it remains to be seen if he can stamp any of his own identity on the band.
