Band Of Horses, Birmingham Carling Academy 2

SOUTH Carolina's Band of Horses attracted a full house to this concert which was sold out weeks ago but the audience must have left with mixed feelings.

While there is no denying the distinctiveness of lead singer Ben Bridwell's voice and his talents as a musician, there was something lacking in this 75-minute gig.

It doesn't help that Academy 2 has such a small stage it tends to limit a band's antics but even so the static nature of guys throughout the entire concert did little to excite a Saturday night audience.

Plundering mainly their most recent album Cease To Begin, Band of Horses also strayed into previous album Everything All The Time territory with The Funeral.

We were treated to a cover of J J Cale's Thirteen Days but, apart from the odd introduction to each song, Band of Horses did little to elicit a reaction.

While their recordings are accomplished, the band need to work a little on their live presentation.
