The Fratellis, Birmingham Carling Academy

THE Fratellis new album may not be out until June, but this gig was the perfect chance for a preview hearing.

They burst straight into their expected next single Mistress Mabel to open the show with the catchy, rocky verve that earned them a Brit Award for Best British Breakthrough Act last year.

But rather than sticking to the older, still popular, songs of debut album Costello Music, the Fratellis decided to even things out with a plentiful supply of the as yet under wraps new tracks.

The crowd's unfamiliarity with the songs didn't matter as they seemed to be in a similar anthemic vein to previous successes.

Old and new blended together for a feel good gig but it was always going to be the more known melodies that roused the crowd the most.

It was the spirited Chelsea Dagger that closed the show, leaving everyone with a spring in their step.
