The Blue Planet Live, Birmingham Symphony Hall

WITH breath-taking film from the BBC television series of the same name, The Blue Planet Live! takes the audience where it can never hope to go in real life.

On a giant screen, we are treated to the true magnificence of the seas from the tiniest of deep sea shrimps to the mighty blue whale.

The excerpts catch the beauty but also the drama of the sea.

These amazing pictures are accompanied by a live score composed and conducted by award winning George Fenton with the Manchester Camerata.

Playing music which he composed to appear alongside these images, the evening also makes us aware of just how much the score affects our emotions in a wildlife programme.

Compered by Kate Humble, the evening aims to evoke powerful emotions.

My only complaint is that at just over two hours the performance is not long enough - I'm sure there is plenty more impressive film we could have seen.

Until tonight.
