Duffy, Wulfrun Hall, Wolverhampton

THE revelation that scorching soul songstress Duffy walked into a swingers' party at the age of 21 wasn't the only jaw-dropping moment during her performance.

The admission came mid-set from the 23-year-old Welsh girl when she explained how the heat in Wulfrun Hall wasn't a ploy to make people undress - unlike the risque party she mistakenly walked in on.

The explanation came with Duffy having opened to the bluesy Syrup and Honey after a cool salute to the crowd, silhouetted in the centre of the stage by two white spot lights shining down from behind.

All the Duffy favourites followed, including Stepping Stone and Mercy. She even sang the Burt Bacharach tune Please Stay.

It would be a cliche to say there was a rousing finish, so in the language of the singer - and the reviewer - Distant Dreamer provided for a diweddglo drydanol.
