Elvis On Tour, NIA

IF THERE are two 20th century events I'd like to have witnessed they would be a Muhammad Ali fight at Madison Square Gardens - and Elvis in his pomp in Las Vegas.

Thanks to Wrexham's Lee "Memphis" King and his orchestra, I've sort of seen the latter.

On a night when the skies over Birmingham were Vegas blue, Lee offered a stupendous showcase of what Elvis was all about from Blue Suede Shoes to In the Ghetto, Hurt, Polk Salad Annie and Suspicious Minds.

Crossing all popular musical boundaries, this show's finale ended spectacularly with audience members finally rising to their feet to dance and give acclaim.

In truth, the cavernous NIA wasn't intimate enough to truly ignite this gig any earlier.

Gigs follow at Solihull Arts Complex tonight and tomorrow. Details on www.elvis-theshow.com.
