Goldfrapp, Birmingham Symphony Hall

ALISON Goldfrapp and co re-lived the age of flower power with a hippy set filled with blossoms, bunting, psychedelia and even a maypole.

A theatrical, even operatic show saw her barefooted in the shortest of dresses with huge batwing sleeves that she silhouetted against the lights.

Alison admitted she was "intimidated by the size of the venue" and clearly uncertain how to deal with a seated crowd.

The band did finally get the audience on its feet after 45 minutes for Ooh La La, but the crowds immediately resumed their seats for Monster Love. It was really only in the encore of Black Cherry hits, Train and Strict Machine, that the crowds were really hooked.

Much of the excellent material from the latest album was muffled. Crowd members could also complain they were short-changed with an eighty minute set which had no sooner got into its stride than it was over.
