Kings Norton in the market for top award

KINGS Norton farmers’ market in Birmingham has been shortlisted for the title of National Farmers’ Market of the Year.

The market is one of ten finalists and the winner will be announced by the National Farmers’ Retail and Markets’ Association on January 26.

The Kings Norton market, launched in 2006, sells food from local farmers and producers.

Judges have been impressed by the event’s atmosphere, with jazz and blues bands often playing and community groups and schools working alongside the farmers.

A popular Meal Deal offers shoppers the opportunity of making extra savings on freshly prepared dinners for two for just £10. Mains include favourites such as steak pie, lamb chops and vegetarian curry, plus side dishes, and a choice of tasty desserts.

Gareth Jones, of FARMA, said: “Kings Norton is working hard to build relationships with customers and community groups.

“The management has vision and drive, the stallholders some fantastic produce. I look forward to seeing the market go from strength to strength in 2010.”

Kings Norton was voted Midlands farmers’ market of the year in 2007 and 2008.
