Lizzy set to raise roof

BIRMINGHAM Town Hall has a glorious history of live music which dates back to 1854 and next Friday sees it celebrating the first anniversary of its reopening, following a ten year closure.

Back in the 1960s the Town Hall became famous for its all-night sessions featuring a mixture of jazz, rock, pop and soul – often all together on one night.

It is now these late-night, rather than all-night sessions, that are proving hugely popular once again thanks to imaginative programming and the brilliant acoustics of the venue.

Next Friday, October 3, the second of these sessions takes place when the celebrated Heritage Orchestra will headline a show which includes the launch of the debut album by Lizzy Parks.

Lizzy’s Raise the Roof recording should be the start of a long and successful career for the ex-Conservatoire singer who has already made her mark on the local scene with her performances with MYJO and regular shows in the region’s jazz clubs.

Headliners The Heritage Orchestra have achieved their worldwide acclaim with a series of best selling albums and notable performances on the major festival circuit.

As if this wasn’t enough there will be DJ sets and live performances from a number of local acts making their first appearances at a major venue.

* Doors open at 7.30pm.
