Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (15)

LETHAL Weapon series writer Shane Black makes an impressive directorial debut with Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (also to buy DVD £17.99).

Sporting shades of David Lynch's Mulholland Drive and George Clooney's Out of Sight, as well as a double act worthy of the Mel Gibson/Danny Glover partnership, the film is a new take on the well-worn pulp fiction genre and comes loaded with fine dialogue and no little inventiveness.

Rough-edged bloodhounds Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer are complemented by the tasty Michelle Monaghan (The Bourne Supremacy).

Downey is also a sufficiently good narrator to handle the jumps over the various chapters taken from Raymond Chandler novels.
