Cheaper By The Dozen 2 (PG)

CHEAPER By The Dozen 2 is director Adam Shankman's saccharine comedy sequel which pits the 14-strong family of the original film against a 10-strong rival brood.

The slapstick comes unstuck, Steve Martin's incessant mugging and gurning at the camera is irritating before the first half hour is up, and screenwriter Sam Harper shows a rare knack for excruciatingly clumsy and limp dialogue.

Director Shankman, who demonstrated a talent for lightweight family comedy with The Pacifier, tries to liven matters up with a number of lacklustre comedic set pieces.
