Sons and Lovers (PG)

FORTY five years after Freddie Francis won the Oscar for best cinematography, Sons And Lovers is now out to buy on DVD for the first time.

Based on DH Lawrence's semi-autobiography and starring Trevor Howard and Donald Pleasance, the story is about a talented Nottinghamshire coal-miner's son falling for a woman separated from her husband.

The DVD also features a newlyfilmed interview with Oscar-nominated debut director, Jack Cardiff, now aged 91.

An Oscar-winner as cinematographer for Black Narcissus in 1948, he shot Rambo II in 1985.
