SET in 1880s Australia with landscapes to match, The Proposition is inevitably a western with a difference.
Guy Pearce simply isn't in it for long enough as Charlie, one of two outlaw brothers caught by nervous Capt Stanley (Ray Winstone).
The 'sheriff' is willing to spare simpleton Mikey (Richard Wilson) only if Charlie kills their psychotic elder brother Arthur (Danny Huston), but the film, which co-stars John Hurt, never lives up to its promise.
