BEST-SELLING mystery novelist Rachel Carlson (Demi Moore) is completely devastated when her seven-year-old son (Beans El-Balawi) drowns in the canal outside the family's London home.
Her marriage implodes and she loses the will to write, even with a record £4 million advance for her next novel.
In desperation, Rachel accepts the suggestion of her best friend Sharon (Kate Isitt) to spend some time in a secluded cottage in the remote Scottish Highlands.
Village life proves a tonic and Rachel's deep emotional wounds begin to heal, helped in no small part by a burgeoning friendship with lighthouse keeper Angus McCulloch (Hans Matheson).
Then Rachel begins hearing voices and she fears her dead son may be trying to make contact, warning her of some terrible tragedy.
