RON Howard's adaptation of Dan Brown's bestseller is an enjoyably-daft celluloid version of its pulp fiction source.
Audrey Tautou plays a spirited police cryptologist, Paul Bettany is a villainous monk with a bizarre taste in self-mutilation and Spider-Man II's Alfred Molina is suitably monstrous as the Bishop Aringarosa.
Between them they are all after the Holy Grail.
But can long-haired Professor Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) get the better of Sir Ian McKellen, who delivers some priceless lines as the ageing historian and aristocrat Sir Leigh Teabing.
