Cars (PG)

TOY Story director John Lasseter returns with the most amazing-looking computer generated animation yet.

It's a road movie journey along Route 66 and some scenes are so complicated that more than 100 hours' work was required to produce a single second of material.

The cars move brilliantly and the scenery looks equally fabulous, but Cars doesn't achieve classic status because the 111-minute story is over-long and a touch wearisome. Owen Wilson is Lightning McQueen, a flashy red stock car character who discovers his true self in a sidelined town called Radiator Springs.

But the best performance comes from Hollywood legend Paul Newman as veteran race machine Doc Hudson.

The film is available to buy for £21.99 and as a Pixar DVD box set for £59.99 - also comprising Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo and The Incredibles.
