Lust, Caution (18)

THE first film made by Ang Lee since Brokeback Mountain, this drama is set in Japanese-occupied Shanghai during the WWII era.

It's the beautifully-shot story of how a wave of oppression leads a group of young people to try to alter the course of history themselves.

Can they become sufficiently organised to smoke out the dangerous but ultra-cautious Mr Yee (Tony Leung Chiu Wai), a Chinese traitor working for the Japanese?

The 151 minute running time will make this hard-going on the small screen in the first half, but the second part lives up to expectations.

ADAPTED by Harold Pinter from Anthony Shaffer's original adaptation of his own play, Sleuth 2007 is a very illadvised remake by Kenneth Branagh. Stepping into Michael Caine's old shoes, Law plays Milo Tindle, an actor visiting a brutalised, gadget-ridden mansion. Contemplating the effect of losing his wife, author Andrew Wyke (now played by Caine stepping into Laurence Olivier's role) offers his younger love rival a dodgy diamond deal. Read
