Closing The Ring (12)

WHAT might well turn out to be Lord Richard Attenborough's 12th and last movie as a director isn't one of his best works by any means.

But older viewers who want to stir up their wartime memories will probably find much to enjoy here, while few male viewers will complain that Dickie managed to persuade O.C. star Mischa Barton to strip off as the young Ethel Ann. The cast includes Shirley MacLaine, Christopher Plummer, Pete Postlethwaite and Brenda Fricker.
