Cloverfield (15)

THIS story of a video camera being left on during an attack by strange creatures is too superficial for its own good and having an unknown cast doesn't help such thinly sketched characters.

Directed by The Yards' writer Matt Reeves, there's no real justification for the continuous filming and, unless you are under 18, the first half-hour will be one big, hand-held yawn.

Producer JJ Abrams was the writer of Armageddon turned director of Mission: Impossible III and creator of Lost.

Also to buy for £19.99, extras on the £22.99 two-disc Cloverfield DVD include deleted scenes and alternative endings with optional director commentary.
